Hampi continues to be an important religious centre, housing the Virupaksha Temple, an active Adi Shankara-linked monastery and various monuments belonging to the old city.

In mythology
Lord Vittala is an aspect of Lord Vishnu (See Gods of Hampi and Mythology of
Hampi). Garuda (lord of eagles) is the vehicle (mount) of Lord Vishnu.
The lake is located in Hagaribommanahalli taluk, Hampi
Conservation
efforts by bird enthusiasts and the Forest Department have transformed the lake.
Different species of birds are
found here
I couldn’t stop watching the birds
reach their nests during sunset. One of the greatest experience so far.
